The basic operation of a pressure relief valve involves a spring-loaded mechanism that responds to changes in pressure within the hydraulic system. Here's how it works:

Pressure Sensing: The pressure relief valve is connected to the hydraulic circuit at a point where pressure needs to be monitored. As the hydraulic fluid flow generates pressure, it acts upon a piston or poppet within the valve assembly.

Spring Force: Inside the pressure relief valve, there is a spring that applies a force opposing the hydraulic pressure. This spring force determines the set pressure at which the valve begins to open.

Threshold Pressure: When the pressure in the hydraulic system reaches the predetermined threshold pressure (set by the spring force), it overcomes the opposing force of the spring, causing the valve to begin opening.

Fluid Diversion: As the valve opens, it creates a pathway for excess fluid to flow out of the system and back to the reservoir. This diversion of fluid effectively reduces the pressure within the system, preventing it from exceeding safe operating limits.

Pressure Regulation: Once the pressure drops below the set threshold, the spring force again becomes dominant, closing the valve and restoring normal operating conditions in the hydraulic system.

Pressure relief valves are crucial for several reasons:

System Protection: They protect hydraulic components and equipment from damage caused by excessive pressure, such as pump overload, seal failure, or component fatigue. By limiting pressure spikes, they extend the lifespan of hydraulic system components.
